Morality & Chastity Curriculum

Faith and Morals

  1. Students will learn God's love is so great that He loves us more than our parents love us.
  2. Students will learn God created us in His own image. (CCC 355) This means He wants us to love as He loves.
  3. Students will learn grace is a special gift from God which helps us to love as He loves.
  4. Students will learn love means wanting and doing what is right and good.
  5. Students will learn God has a plan for our lives. (CCC 1)
  6. Students will learn we should ask God every day to give us the grace to know and do what is right and good.
  7. Students will learn God loves us and wants to share His life with us while we are here on earth and forever in heaven.
  8. Students will learn we love God and share in His life by listening to the Gospel, living by the Commandments, praying, worshipping at Mass, receiving the Sacraments, and practicing Christian charity.
  9. Students will learn God always loves us and wants us to turn to Him and say we are sorry when we have sinned. Sin is choosing to do what we know is wrong.
  10. Students will learn God forgives our sins when we are sorry and ask for forgiveness. God is always forgiving.
  11. Students will learn that in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, God shows us His love and forgiveness in a special way and gives us the grace to become more loving people. (CCC 1422 ff)
  12. Students will learn God shows us how to love by always being willing to forgive us and that we should try to be loving as He is and always be willing to forgive those who hurt us.
  13. Students will learn God loves us so much that He sent His only Son, Jesus, to save us from our sins and to show us how to love.
  14. Students will learn Jesus died on the cross for our sins. The cross is a sign of God's love for us.
  15. Students will learn that the Eucharist gives us the grace to love another as Jesus loves us. Christ gives us the gift of Himself in Holy Communion so that we can do what is right and good for ourselves and others. (CCC 1322 ff)
  16. Students will learn there are objective standards for right and wrong.
  17. Students will learn about examples from the lives of Mary, Jesus and the saints related to family life.
  18. Students will learn to examine their consciences daily in the light of their awareness of right and wrong.
  19. Students will learn how to prepare themselves for a worthy and fruitful reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
  20. Students will be reinforced in the understanding that people must always love others even though they do not always do what is right and good. A part of loving oneself is not spending time with people who do harmful or dangerous things.

Personal, Health, and Safety

  1. Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of life as a gift and identify the responsibilities that result from that gift.
  2. Students will be able to explain in simple terms the meaning of the word "contagious" and how to avoid infection from everyday viruses.
  3. Students will be reinforced in the understanding that there are consequences to their behavior.
  4. Students will be reinforced in the importance of avoiding potentially dangerous or harmful situations and in ways of avoiding those situations.
  5. Students will learn to tell parents and/or teachers when anyone touches them and tells them it is a secret and not to tell anyone.*

Character, Family, and Social

  1. Students will realize human beings need to be cared for by their parents.
  2. Students will realize each human baby has a soul and is special and unique and must be cared for in a way that animals are not.
  3. Students will identify family members and their responsibilities in contributing to the success of the family.
  4. Students will identify that their family cares for them: spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially, and intellectually.
  5. Students will learn that the use of good manners is a form of showing respect for others and themselves.
  6. Students will become aware of the appropriate way of dealing with their feelings in the classroom and in public in general.
  7. Students will learn elements of self-worth, fairness and justice, caring and compassion, social responsibility, personal integrity, pursuit of excellence, and appropriate expression of rights and responsibilities.
  8. Students will learn practical applications of the cardinal virtues (prudence, justice, fortitude, temperance) and the theological virtues (faith, hope, charity). (CCC 1805, 1813)
