Morality & Chastity Curriculum

Faith and Morals

  1. Students will learn God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) created us out of love and for love.
  2. Students will learn we are called to adore and praise God for creating us, and we should thank our parents for cooperating with Him to bring us into the world.
  3. Students will learn God planned that babies be born in a family and grow up with a mother and father. (CCC 2202)
  4. Students will learn God did not create any two people exactly alike; each person is special and unique.
  5. Students will learn God created us either male or female. It is good to be a boy or girl.
  6. Students will learn every person is a wonderful gift from God and should be loved.
  7. Students will learn love means wanting and doing what is right and good for another person.
  8. Students will learn God always loves us, even though we do not always do what is right and good.
  9. Students will learn people must always love others even though they do not always do what is right and good. A part of loving oneself is not spending time with people who do harmful or dangerous things.
  10. Students will learn that when we are disobedient, we should strive to do better and ask God and any people we have disobeyed for forgiveness.
  11. Students will learn we should ask God every day to help us to love.
  12. Students will learn that through Baptism, we become members of God's family, the Church, and we receive a special gift from God which helps us to love as He loves. (CCC 1213 ff)
  13. Students will learn some "signs" of God's presence in the world.
  14. Students will learn about examples from the lives of Jesus, Mary and the saints related to family life.

Personal, Health, and Safety

  1. Students will learn how we need to care for our bodies, whether we are sick or well.
  2. Students will be able to identify ideas for playtime at school and at home as either "safe" or "dangerous."
  3. Students will realize each human baby has a soul and is special and unique and must be cared for in a way that animals are not.
  4. Students will be reinforced in the importance of avoiding potentially dangerous or harmful situations and in ways of avoiding those situations.
  5. Students will learn to tell parents and/or teachers when anyone touches them and tells them it is a secret and not to tell anyone.*
  6. Students will be able to name significant adults with whom they can share important information.
  7. Students will become aware of the appropriate way of dealing with their feelings in the classroom, and in public in general.
  8. *Note to Teacher: This topic is meant for safety instruction, not discussion regarding private body parts.

 Character, Family, and Social

  1. Students will realize human beings have babies and that these babies need to be cared for by their parents.
  2. Students will identify family members and their responsibilities in contributing to the success of the family including when a family member is ill.
  3. Students will learn that the use of good manners is a form of showing respect for others and themselves.
  4. Students will begin to learn there are consequences to their behavior.
  5. Students will learn elements of self-worth, fairness and justice, caring and compassion, social responsibility, personal integrity, pursuit of excellence, and appropriate expression of rights and responsibilities.
  6. Students will learn practical applications of the cardinal virtues (prudence, justice, fortitude, temperance) and the theological virtues (faith, hope, charity). (CCC 1805,1813)
