Saint Thomas Education Foundation

StThomasEdFoundLogoThe Saint Thomas Education Foundation is a separately incorporated, tax exempt, 501(c)(3) charitable trust established in 1983 to provide financial support to Saint Thomas School. With the mission to “Raise, protect and administer funds to support the educational, literacy, scientific and spiritual objectives of Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic School and its students,” the Foundation has provided the school with more than $800,000 over the years. Currently annual funding support is directed primarily to tuition assistance for students whose families might not otherwise have the option of choosing the benefits of a Catholic education. Financial disbursements may also fund school programs, materials and equipment, professional development for educators and enhanced technology.

As an endowment fund, all gifts to the Education Foundation are permanently retained and invested. Revenue generated by careful stewardship of this investment is disbursed annually to Saint Thomas School. Since donations made to the Foundation are never spent, they become “Forever Gifts,” providing financial stability and security to the school in perpetuity.

  • Legacy gifts through will/estate planning (see below)
  • Double your gift through your employer’s matching gift program

STAR (Staff, Teacher Appreciation and Recognition) Award

Show your appreciation for the STAR in your child's life by making a tax-deductible donation of $20 or more to the Foundation in honor of a special person. Your STAR will be acknowledged in the next Foundation newsletter and we will provide you with a certificate to present to your honoree. To recognize a staff member or teacher, please complete this STAR Award Form and mail it to the Foundation.

Tributes and Memorials

Gifts can always be given in honor or memory of a loved one or family member. Since gifts made to The Foundation are added to the endowment and carefully invested, rather than given away, they continue to provide financial assistance to Saint Thomas School in perpetuity. To give a gift in honor or memory of a loved one is actually to give a “Forever Gift” on behalf of that person.

Donations can be directed toward funding one or more of the endowed scholarships overseen by the Foundation. These scholarships have been established by caring parishioners and, over time, are being funded by friends, family, alumni and other generous donors such as yourself. Existing scholarships include:

  • Ed Carr Scholarship
  • Jeanine Serba Scholarship
  • Father Jim Chelich Scholarshi
  • Rosemary C. Cooke Scholarship

The process for establishing a scholarship is a simple one that we hope you will consider. There is a form to complete indicating your intention to create a scholarship and that, along with your donation, is all that is needed. We suggest a minimum gift of $5,000 to establish the fund. It will be considered fully endowed when the fund balance reaches $20,000, which can happen all at once, over time or even through a will or bequest. As with all donations to the Education Foundation, contributions to these funds are never spent. They are permanently invested and only the revenue generated is used to make financial disbursements to Saint Thomas School and students.

Legacy Gifts

Donors who have supported Catholic education over the years can continue that patronage through strategic estate planning. Appreciated stocks, real estate, life insurance policies, 401K funds, or tangible personal property such as antiques, art, coins and jewelry can all be donated or willed to the Education Foundation. In addition to the potential tax advantages of making a legacy gift, you will be ensuring that Saint Thomas School can continue to provide affordable, quality Catholic education to future students for generations to come.
