Morality & Chastity Curriculum

Faith and Morals

  1. Students will learn God is our Father in heaven.
  2. Students will learn God created each one of us out of love for us.
  3. Students will learn God created the whole world and everything in it out of love for us.
  4. Students will learn God gave us our family to love us and to teach us what is right and good.
  5. Students will learn we should thank God for all He has given us by being respectful of other family members and taking good care of our belongings.
  6. Students will learn God loves us no matter what. He is always there for us.
  7. Students will learn we are most like God when we love others and ourselves.
  8. Students will learn love means wanting and doing what is right and good for the other person.
  9. Students will learn God wants us to love and obey our parents.
  10. Students will learn that when it is hard to be good and obey, they should pray to God and ask Him to help.

Personal, Health, and Safety

  1. Students will learn each person is special and should be treated with love and respect.
  2. Students will learn what makes each person special and that there are differences between humans and animals.
  3. Students will develop an awareness of appropriate ways of displaying affection, respect, and appreciation for each other in the classroom.
  4. Students will learn the importance of avoiding potentially harmful situations.
  5. Students will learn to tell parents and/or teachers when anyone touches them and says it is a secret and not to tell anyone.*
  6. Students will learn how we need to care for our bodies, whether we are sick or well.

*Note to Teacher: This topic is meant for safety instruction, not discussion regarding private body parts.

Character, Family, and Social

  1. Students will learn to respect other people and other people’s property.
  2. Students will learn to respect proper authority.
  3. Students will begin to learn their behavior affects others (as well as themselves), just as others' behavior affects them.
  4. Students will recognize that according to God’s plan children are to be raised in a loving family unit consisting of a father, a mother and the child/children (CCC 2202).* At the same time, students will recognize that it is sometimes necessary for children to be raised by grandparents, single parents, or others.
  5. Students will identify the members of their own family and recognize those family members as their most important contact for love, support, and guidance.
  6. Students will discuss what it means to be a friend.
  7. Students will learn practical applications of the cardinal virtues (prudence, justice, fortitude, temperance) and the theological virtues (faith, hope, charity). (CCC 1805, 1813)
